Getting married? Get creative with wedding stationery and supplies
Whether you’ve just got engaged or your wedding day is looming, there’s always so much to do when you’re getting married. We have a range of creative ideas to help you get started. Why not add something different, something stylish to your special day, so your guests will be talking about your event for years to come? Here are a few of our ideas, and we have also included a mini wedding checklist for you to print off too…
Striking ‘Save the Date’ cards
It is very common these days to send out a ‘save the date’ card before you send out an invitation – this is to make sure your best friend, Uncle Bob or Aunty Susan can actually make your day. Save the Date cards don’t have to be elaborate – they can be simple and eye-catching so friends and family don’t forget to add your special date to the calendar. After all, this is what Save the Date cards are for. You could use a lovely textured paper or card (we call this textured board), or you could choose an iridescent paper so it literally sparkles when they open it. Match your envelope to your card, and it’ll stand out and shine in a pile of post.
Stylish Wedding Invitations
Next, the all-important wedding invitations. There is so much you can do to create a beautiful wedding invitation. We’ve touched upon textured and unusual papers above, so why not choose a paper or a technique which reflects the theme of your wedding? There are some wonderful options including laser cutting shapes into the cover – you could have hearts (for all you romantics out there), flowers (roses make gorgeous shapes – see image below), birds… the sky’s the limit. And, if you are planning on having an Asian wedding, why not laser-cut ‘jali work’ (or jaali) designs into your invites; imitating the ornamental, perforated lattice carvings, which are so famous in India?
If you’re having separate day and evening events – or you need to invite different guests – you could create a mini invitation ‘pocket’ with a series of printed inserts. Then, all you have to do is include the information relevant to that particular guest. This can be a really simple, cost-effective way to pull together your wedding invitations. See our checklist below for essential info you should include.
You could include RSVP cards and stamp-addressed envelopes too – make it really easy for people to send their responses to you. This is especially important if you have a friend or family member collating the replies – the simpler, the better. And don’t forget your matching envelopes! Choose a high-quality, strong envelope, especially if you are including lots of information. The more coordinated your invitations and envelopes are, the more classy and stylish they will look.
Super-important wedding supplies
Depending on your ceremony, you may need an Order of Service – if so, why not colour-match this to your invitations so that everything is consistent? On that note, why not choose colour-coordinating place cards, menu cards – even table numbers – so that every element matches your wedding theme?
Have you thought about what you could put on top of your wedding cake? Did you know you can now laser cut shapes in both Perspex and plywood in a vast range of colours? This could be anything you choose – from words to mini effigies of you and your husband/wife to be!
And don’t forget your guestbook – there are some absolutely brilliant ways to get feedback from your friends and family. You could choose a glossy, beautiful book for people to write in. Or, why not get your guests to write messages on thin wooden hearts, which can be slotted into a frame for you to keep proudly on your wall? See image below. A simply lovely way to remember your day.
Special gifts and favours for guests
These days, people choose all sorts of items to give to their guests – from food to coins, and all sorts! If you’re looking for a different idea, how about personalised wedding coasters? You could include the date, your names, Mr & Mrs, Mr & Mr, or Mrs & Mrs… this is a perfect and practical keepsake for your guest to take home after your wedding.
What’s more, if you’re looking to personalise any other elements of your wedding, maybe a special gift for your best man, maid of honour, mother of the bride, etc., how about a cheese board, a chopping board or a wine box? Personalised on one side and engraved into wood – these gifts will stand the test of time (see images below) – hopefully, for as long as your marriage!
We wish you both a wonderful wedding day.
