Printing Tips and Paper Sizes
At The Practical Printer, we’re always happy to give you printing tips and a guide to paper sizes to make it really easy for you to send your files to us. A high resolution PDF is the safest file format to send as artwork. If you can’t create a PDF on your computer, you can send your artwork to an online service such as Zamzar, where your file can be converted into a PDF for free!
We are also able to accept artwork files in the following formats
Microsoft Word should only be used to supply raw text and should not be used for artwork. If your artwork is in Word, please convert the file into a PDF prior to sending. This will prevent any issues with your document. Always ensure the page layout is A4 (210mm x 297mm) prior to converting.
We can accept files by CD, DVD, USB Stick, via email or via our Hightail Account – please use this link: http://dropbox.yousendit.com/Postbox
All artwork must be built in Pantone colours or CMYK. All picture files must be supplied with program-specific files and must be supplied as CMYK (not RGB). All photo files must be at least 300ppi at the size they are intended to be printed.
Artwork must be saved with a 3mm bleed on all edges and with crop marks (cutting marks).
Once we have processed your files, we will send you a final proof of the file for approval prior to production.
Paper and Board
[p] There are two main types of paper and board: Coated and Uncoated.
Generally speaking, coated stock is excellent for reproducing photographs and pictures, as the coating enhances the brightness of images. This is also ideal for brochures, booklets and leaflets.
